Painlessness

I have been working on the phenomenology of pain ever since my BA dissertation, I today I was wondering, where is the phenomenology of painlessness?

Painlessness is not a ‘state’ one is in, one rarely says ‘I am not in pain’ unless one has been in pain or if one is asked by a physician. So I wonder if it something only someone who has been in pain can talk about. I hope not. I must think more about this.
