Towards Pain without Intentionality

Why does Phenomenology always start with intentionality? Intentionality means ‘toward-ness’ that we, as human beings are always aiming or acting towards a goal or object, whether it be consciously or unconsciously done. However, many of our experiences, such as my favourite, pain has no ‘towardness’ no being-towards. May be pain has no intentionality rather pain is simply experience had by me, not as an object, pre-reflective or otherwise but simply as something present to my self. I am intimately connected to my pain, but not related, as that implies intentionality. ‘I am in pain’ implies relatedness, I prefer ‘the pain is experienced by me’. I am trying to eliminate the relatedness, but not having much luck.
